Do you have questions about genital warts?
In the following, we’ll answer the most common ones.
Can laser treatment cause transmission?
I’d say no — laser itself doesn’t transmit the virus.
However, if the device is not properly disinfected, or if the laser touches the lesion and spreads to surrounding areas, or if another patient is treated immediately afterward, then there is a possibility of transmission.
Can shaving over the wart cause transmission?
It’s better not to shave directly over a wart.
But if you do, the chance of spreading the virus to nearby skin increases.
Is it transmitted through saliva or blood?
No.
The HPV virus can’t survive in blood — it can’t live at internal body temperatures, only in the outer skin layers.
Can it be transmitted through a toilet seat?
The answer is no, but in a very rare and complex scenario, it’s theoretically possible.
For example, if someone has an open wound, and the toilet seat is contaminated with wart secretions, and they sit on it immediately afterward, then there’s a very small chance of transmission.
